Canton refinery receives Ohio EPA award
Each year, the Ohio EPA recognizes organizations in Ohio that are committed to environmental excellence through its Encouraging Environmental Excellence (E3) Program. The E3 Program targets Ohio businesses and organizations that strive to reduce waste, improve efficiency and work to continuously improve as an environmental steward.
The E3 Program recognizes organizations on four different levels: Achievement, Silver, Gold and Platinum. In 2016, Marathon Petroleum Corporation's (MPC's) refinery in Canton, Ohio, applied for Achievement Status, submitting a 30-page application highlighting its outstanding achievements in the following environmental stewardship criteria:
- Impact to the environment
- Management commitment
- Employee involvement
- Recycling programs
- Energy efficiency
- Environmental management system (Responsible Care®)
- Storm water best management practices
The refinery was recently recognized by the Ohio EPA for its efforts in enhancing Ohio’s environment, receiving Achievement Status.
“The efforts of the Canton workforce in participating in environmental activities through reducing our impact to the environment and promoting a culture of environmental stewardship is reflected in earning Achievement Status from the Ohio EPA,” said Canton Refinery Environmental Safety and Security Manager Darin Barber. “Our goal is to keep participating in Ohio EPA’s E3 Program, applying for Silver Status in 2017, which involves a more extensive application process focusing on 19 environmental stewardship criteria.”
