MPC employees assist Huntington City Mission, American Red Cross

Recently, MPC employees traveled from Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, Florida, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Kentucky and Tennessee to attend a regional meeting and help two organizations near the Catlettsburg, Kentucky, community: the Huntington City Mission and the American Red Cross.

Employees painted, served a meal, power washed and landscaped at the Huntington City Mission, which provides shelter for approximately 150 people, including 40 children, each day. It’s the only full-service shelter within a 50-mile radius of Huntington, West Virginia.

The MPC volunteer group also installed a mural at the City Mission. At the Mission’s artistic direction, MPC’s graphics department donated time to create the mural. MPC employees also made personal donations for the purchase of tools and rubber mulch for a playground and $400 cash to be used at the discretion of the Mission.

At the Red Cross, MPC employees received training to install smoke detectors in homes. Seven teams of four canvassed neighborhoods in the Kenova/Ceredo, West Virginia, area and installed approximately 100 smoke detectors. Each team included a firefighter or a Red Cross representative and MPC employees who served as installers, documenters and educators.

The group’s efforts were part of the Red Cross’ Home Fire Campaign. West Virginia is the fourth highest ranked death-by-fire state in the U.S., and the Kenova/Ceredo area is among the leading cities of death caused by fire in the state. Nationwide, fires are the third leading cause of death for children under 10 years of age.

MPC employees also personally donated $400 cash to the Red Cross.

Corporate citizenship is one of MPC’s corporate values. Employees work hard to make a positive difference in the communities where we have the privilege to operate.
