Volunteers help Indiana food bank

Earlier this month, approximately 20 MPC employees from the Indianapolis area sorted food donations for Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana.

Tony Schulte, M&TE project engineer, coordinated the group and noted that employees from marketing and transportation engineering (M&TE), brand marketing and both the Speedway and asphalt terminals volunteered. Schulte is a member of the community outreach committee at the M&TE office in Indianapolis.

Volunteers sorted donations by type of food, checked for expiration dates and discarded damaged foods so it could be organized in the food bank warehouse. From there, the food is distributed to more than 250 partner agencies – including food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters – in 21 Indiana counties. Gleaners also provides food for programs such as BackSacks: Weekend Food for Kids, School-Based Pantry, C.A.R.E. Mobile Pantry and Community Cupboard.
