Employees Celebrate 'Batman v Superman' Involvement

On March 16, nearly 140 employees of Marathon Petroleum Corporation (MPC) gathered at the MJR Southgate Cinemas in Southgate, Michigan, for a private, advanced screening of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The screening, courtesy of Warner Bros. Pictures, was a gift to the employees who aided in the production of the film.

That’s right. When Batman revs up the Batmobile’s engines, he chases the bad guys in an action-packed scene that passes through MPC’s Detroit, Michigan, refinery. The movie’s production crew spent most of 2014 in the Detroit area and used many local businesses as backdrops for scenes throughout the film. MPC, however, was one of the only businesses to be recognized with prominent logo placement. The logo appears on a storage tank in the background of this scene.

“This was certainly a once-in-a-lifetime experience – after all, it’s not every day you get to see the Batmobile chasing a convoy through the refinery,” said MPC Communications Manager Brandon Daniels. “The months of planning and coordination were all worth it when we finally saw the final result on the big screen.” Dozens of MPC employees and contractors worked with the production team for several months leading up to the 12-hour shoot to develop a safe, secure and environmentally-conscious production plan for the more than 250 crewmembers on-site that day.

To further aid the production, MPC loaned the production one of their transport trucks. The truck, adorned with the logo for Speedway, can be seen at various times throughout the rest of the sequence featuring the Detroit refinery.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was released in theaters nationwide on March 25, 2016.
