Fueling community pride
For years, the Mid-American Conference (MAC) has brought together some of the best college football teams and fans in the Great Lakes region. With schools clustered from Illinois to New York, many competitive rivalries have transpired over the years, leading to countless seasons of matchups contested with a passionate love for team and sport.
In the culmination of this spirit, and with one final hurrah of official conference matchups for the season, the 2016 Marathon MAC Football Championship, held on December 2, 2016 in Detroit’s Ford Field, was no less vibrant. More than 40,000 fans came to cheer on their teams that night, as the champions of MAC’s East and West Divisions left a season’s worth of effort and practice all on the field. The game remained close to the very end, as the Western Michigan University Broncos held off the Ohio University Bobcats in a 29-23 victory.
As the title sponsor, MPC’s logo could be seen nearly everywhere in the stadium, including the end zone, banner boards and chain sets. MPC also sponsored the halftime kicking contest, offering the winner a gas gift card. In between downs and quarters, spectators were enthusiastically reminded that MPC was proud to sponsor the night. But aside from the thrill of football, the championship’s sponsorship carries special purpose to the business of MPC and the communities we serve and operate.
“The MAC Championship game brings together the same people and communities from our core area of operations,” said MPC Advertising Specialist Steven Kammeyer. “Our sponsorship celebrates the hometown spirit of community, and the many relationships we keep with those we serve throughout the Midwest.”
At the game’s conclusion, MPC Advertising and Credit Card Manager Craig Weigand assisted MAC Commissioner Jon Steinbrecher with the presentation of the official MAC Championship trophy to Western Michigan University coach P. J. Fleck along with MPC Brand customer Steve Schweihofer of Foster Blue Water.
