MPL's Michigan facility receives VPP Star status

Marathon Pipe Line’s (MPL) Northeast Area operations in Woodhaven, Michigan, recently received recognition as a Star worksite from Michigan’s Voluntary Protection Program (VPP). This is MPL’s fourth facility to achieve VPP status. They join 15 other MPC facilities including refineries, terminals and offices in receiving this distinction. VPP Star Status recognizes a workplace’s commitment to employee safety and is administered by the state-level Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) office.

There are 21 employees at the Northeast Area facility. They started their VPP certification process in December 2014 and received confirmation of certification in December 2017. A celebration and flag raising ceremony was held at the facility in May.

“The Northeast Area is proud of this achievement and would like to thank MIOSHA for their support and recognition,” said Northeast Area Manager Ray Price. “We will continue to show our commitment to providing an injury-free workplace where everyone feels accountable for personal and process safety. The journey to achieving Star status has been a valuable and rewarding effort.”
