New refining engineers go to boot camp
Refining engineers new to MPC recently had the opportunity to participate in the 2017 Engineering Boot Camp held at the Findlay Campus. Engineers from across MPC’s refineries with engineering disciplines in chemical, electrical, mechanical, civil and environmental attended the five-day event.
The new hire engineers (typically one year or less with MPC) are presented training delivered by MPC refining subject matter experts, including technologists, directors and managers. Participants are given an overview of engineering at MPC, the professional and technical handbook (PATH), and a foundation to build upon to be successful.
“The attending new hire engineers are exposed to presentations from some of the company’s top professionals, as well as meeting other new engineers, allowing for a foundation of professional growth and an early establishment of key contacts,” said Senior Training Specialist Ianthia Hester.
“Engineering Boot Camp is a great way to assimilate new engineers with Marathon’s culture and values,” said Callie Sandholm, refining engineer I at the Canton refinery and boot camp participant. “We were able to learn about aspects of the business that we will be involved in within our new roles. It was a great opportunity to network with fellow colleagues and leaders within the company.”
